On October 27th, Pakistan marked Kashmir Black Day to reiterate its unwavering support for those living in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) while calling for an equitable resolution to their longstanding dispute with India. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif both issued separate messages emphasizing Pakistan’s strong support for Kashmir’s cause. President Zardari strongly condemned India’s August 5, 2019 actions that stripped IIOJK of its special status, while calling upon international institutions to hold India accountable for human rights violations within IIOJK. Pakistan-wide events were organized to express support for IIOJK residents, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rallies, seminars and solidarity walks organized by educational institutions, government offices and civil society groups took place with participants chanting slogans such as “Kashmir will become Pakistan” while also condemning Indian atrocities in this region. Pakistan’s leadership issued a call to the international community to take tangible steps toward peaceful resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute, appealing to United Nations Security Council resolutions as well as aspirationsal statements by Kashmiris for accountability for grave and systematic human rights violations in IIOJK by India. They underscored that lasting peace and stability for South Asia depend on just and durable settlement of this dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions as well as aspirationsal statements made by Kashmiris themselves, Geo News reported.
