Pakistan’s weightlifting team finished the 2025 Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship in Doha with an outstanding performance, winning two additional gold medals on the final day to bring its total medal count up to 11, encompassing eight golds, one silver and two bronzes. As reported by Samaa TV +11 (The News International + 11 Daily Ausaf), two additional golds were secured on that last day of competition for Pakistan bringing its total tally up to 11.
Furqan Anwar excelled in the men’s 89kg category (Age Group 30+), lifting 315 kilograms overall–143kg from snatch and 172kg from clean and jerk. As a result, Anwar won gold while in Usman Rathore won a bronze medal with 282kg total lift; his father Maqsood Amjad Rathore had previously taken home gold in Age Group 65+ category!

Sybil Sohail made history at the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship as she became the first Pakistani woman ever to claim gold at that event, competing in the 59kg category and lifting 95kg (40kg in the snatch, 55kg clean and jerk). On her international weightlifting debut she achieved an outstanding total of 95kg – 40kg for the snatch, 55kg clean & jerk (C&J). Sybil comes from an athletic family; Twinkle Sohail, Veronika Sohail and Mariam Sohail all accomplished powerlifters themselves – this achievement particularly struck home – she lifted 95kg total (40kg in Snatch and 55kg in C&Jerk). Her success makes an impressionful statement of achievement; Twinkle Sohail’s sister Twinkle Sohail also accomplished powerlifters themselves (Twinkle Sohail was an accomplished powerlifter), Veronika Sohail also being accomplished powerlifter herself! Other notable performances for Pakistan included Umar Rasool Lone’s victory in the men’s 89kg Age Group 35+ category where he lifted 276kg; Kashif Rehan also took gold, lifting an impressive total of 276 kg and taking first in his category (Kashif Rehan at 102).
